The rescue of “Britain’s loneliest sheep” descended into farce after animal rights activists halted her transfer to a petting zoo, claiming she should be taken to a “sanctuary, not turned into a spectacle”.
The sheep, known as Fiona, may well already be missing the peace and quiet of the two years she spent in isolation, stranded at the foot of cliffs on the Cromarty Firth on Scotland’s northeast coast.
No sooner had she been winched to safety by a group led by a YouTuber and sheep farmer, she found herself at the centre of a bitter spat between her rescuers and activists from an animal rights group called Animal Rising.
