‘I had a baby, a new job, a house — there was never time for a pension’

Aasmah Mir is a successful journalist. She is a Sunday Times columnist and Times Radio presenter, a high-earner who owns a three-bedroom house in London where she lives with her eight-year-old daughter. But there is one thing she doesn’t have — a pension.

“When you are 30, retirement feels very remote. I was earning quite good money and was more worried about navigating things like savings and my mortgage. I just did not have the bandwidth for it,” she said.

Now she admits that worries about how she will fund her retirement are keeping her awake at night.
