Ten years of Barclays loyalty and I’m dropped

I run a small business and have banked with Barclays for about ten years. Over the past year the bank has been pestering me for business information and threatening to close my account.

I reached out to a director of Barclays and eventually the pestering stopped, and I provided what the bank wanted, which was an administration issue. In June Barclays wrote and said there was nothing further to do. All went quiet.

Last week I woke up to several emails from people I pay regularly — utilities, phone, IT support and more — saying that my bank had informed them that my direct debits could no longer be serviced. I immediately went to my online banking thinking the worst, that I had been hacked
