Adventure Photography Competition 2012 Results
Today we announce the results of our 2012 Adventure Photography Competition. We asked you to submit a picture which screams adventure from your own personal travels, and you certainly didn't disappoint, leaving us a little jealous of all the amazing places you've been to and the incredible things you've done!!
As you probably know, our competition judge was Mr Dave Cornthwaite, a man who knows plenty about adventure travel. So, without further ado, here are his selections:
First Prize

Submitted by:
Matt Prior
Description:
Where: On the way back from Mt Everest Base Camp
What: Driving a London Taxi 45,000 miles around the world for the British Red Cross
When: Aug 2011
Dave Cornthwaite says:
"I love this. A long, straight road, mountains, desert, and of course a Black Cab for shelter! Perfect. I’d have this blown up into canvas and put on my wall, if I had a wall."
Runner-up

Submitted by:
Martha Baldwin
Description:
Cordillera Blanca, Andes, Peru, 2009
Dave Cornthwaite says:
"Stunning shot, like the earth is opening up and saying ‘here you go, this way to the blue sky’"
Runner-up

Submitted by:
Will Palmer
Description:
Pakistan, alone 5000m up an unnamed mountain after an equally spectacular 80km paraglider flight to get there.
Dave Cornthwaite says:
"The beautiful solitude of nature is defined by one man and his campfire, thousands of feet above sea level. That he flew to get there just makes the picture for me."
Runner-up

Submitted by:
Marcel Boot
Description:
In zodiacs we took off into the pack ice of the Antarctic peninsula. Here in the Weddell Sea we pondered on the experiences Ernest Shackleton and his men as they camped on the ice then set out on the mighty journey to Elephant Island.
All of the sudden we had this unexpected amazing fortunate encounter. Very few (one in tens of millions) people ever get to see one of these supreme birds in the wild.
Every time I look at this photo I still feel his call in every fiber of my body whilst taking this shot!
Dave Cornthwaite says:
"I can almost hear this call of the wild, testament to the moment and the photographer. Magic."
Frontier Staff Pick

Submitted by:
Tom Bonte
Description:
Having dinner at one of our camping spots while hiking the Alta Via 2 in the Italian Dolomites. This picture was taken some 1000m above the valley of the Passo Gardena, not that far from Rifugio Pisciadu.
We say:
"We really like this shot. It captures the spirit of adventure and makes us want to get out there and start exploring"
A big thank you to everyone who entered this competition and for making Dave Cornthwaite's life difficult in choosing a winner. Congratulations to all those selected as winners. For details of the prizes please see our Competitions page. Tom Bonte, our Staff Pick, wins himself a Frontier hoodie. Thanks also to our judge Mr Cornthwaite and good luck with your current adventure. Lastly, a massive thank you to OutdoorWorld.co.uk supplying us with a great selection of prizes.
